Hello, All,

One of the truths about crime fiction (and any other kind of writing) is that it’s not done in a vacuum. Writers learn from each other, and crime fiction enthusiasts learn from each other, too.

This year, I’ve learned so much and been so inspired by several different crime fiction and mystery blogs that I’ve decided to honor those blogs today with an Inspiring Blog Award.

Those whose blogs I've listed here keep blogs that inspire me, teach me, and push me to be a better blogger and writer and a more well-read mystery fan. For that, I thank all of you and am eager to learn from you in the new year.

Awardees, feel free to use this image on your blogs if you wish. Even if you don’t, please know how much your blog means to me.

Folks, I highly recommend all of these sites; you’ll be glad you visited them:

  1. How kind of you! What a way to ring out the old, and ring in the new. Thank you.

  2. You're so sweet! Thanks so much, Margot. Your blog is an inspiration, should award it to yourself!

    Mystery Writing is Murder

  3. Michele - Richly-deserved!! I wish you a healthy, safe and prosperous 2010.

  4. Elizabeth - Thanks for the kind words : ). Acutally, I've learned more from you than you could imagine. Have a wonderful 2010.

  5. Many thanks Margot. I find your blog amazing too - your knowledge of Agatha Christie titles is staggering, and the topics you write on provide inspiration for me too. I'm just embarrassed that I don't get to comment more often - that's cos my RSS reader makes me lazy - I read all your posts there

  6. You inspire me with the research and depth and quality of writing that goes into your blog. I hope it will someday be a book because I will certainly buy it.

  7. My goodness, Margot, thank you so much for including my blog on such an illustrious list! You inspire me daily. Your knowledge of the genre is literally breathtaking. I learn something with every post. Thank YOU for starting your blog and letting me learn from you!

  8. Oh, Margot you are too kind. Your blog is the one that inspires. I look forward to reading it each day. It always proves to be interesting, informative and makes me consider things in a different way each time. I agree with Elizabeth, you deserve the award. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.

  9. Picture me blushing. And very grateful too. I am always gob-smacked by your own knowledge of crime fiction (especially dear Agatha) and your wonderfully thought-provoking posts about what makes crime fiction of all types tick. Like Kerrie I feel guilty that I don't comment more but sometimes I can't think of anything intelligent enough to say but rest assured I do read them all with avid interest.

There are only a couple of blogs in your list that I don't already subscribe to but I'll be checking those out right now.

  10. Thank you so much, Margot! This means a great deal to me.

  11. Thanks for the award, Margot! You know so much about mysteries, I think you've forgotten more than I've ever known about them. (BTW, who is Agatha Christie? :) )

  12. Kerrie - How kind of you to say such nice things : ). I think we all inspire each other, don't we? And please don't worry about how often you comment or aren't able to; I'm honored that you take the time to read my meanderings ; ). You should know, too, that I am in your debt for introducing me to the wonderful crime fiction community in which I'm honored to participate.

Patti - What a nice thing to say!! I can't help it - I love crime fiction and it would be a lot of fun to put my posts together into a book. I just may take a stab at it : ).

Elspeth - I want you to know how much I really enjoy learning from your blog. Your sense of humor makes each of your posts a treat : ), and you have such an insight into what writing is really like. No wonder I visit your "living room" every day : ).

Mason - How kind of you! Folks, you *have* to take a look at Mason's interesting and lively blog. Mason, you'e got such a broad perspective on crime (and other kinds of) fiction that it's no wonder I visit you all the time!

Bernadette - OK, now it's my turn to blush. Your reviews are some of my favorites. Folks, Bernadette's reviews are thorough, honest and well-informed - well worth reading! I am flattered that you take the time to read my musings. Please don't worry about how often you do or don't comment; to me it's an honor that you take the time to stop by.

Cathy - I wish I had what it takes to make my blog as inviting, interesting and informative as yours : ). Thanks for taking the time to visit mine : ).

Alan - How nice of you! Thanks for the kind words. And Agatha Christie used to play shortstop for the Phillies (just kidding!).

  13. Thanks so much for including my blog, Margot - and what great company in which to be included!

  14. Chris - My pleasure : ). Your blog's informative, interesting and engaging; what more could a mystery fan want? : ). I especially like all of the different crime fiction tidbits you always share.

  15. Many thanks, Margot. I am chuffed and frankly shocked that someone as knowledgeable as yourself should give me an award.
Earlier in the year, on one of my two trips to Greenway, I bought an Agatha Christie A to Z essential reference book. If I had known your blog was on the way I need not have bothered. I don't know how you find the time to write such informative and interesting posts, but they make me want to read every book you mention.

  16. Norman - You are far too kind! I truly appreciate it. I learn as much from your blog as you ever do from mine, and I am honored to be in the crime fiction community with you. Folks, Norman's blog, Crime Scraps, has got excellent reviews, lovely photos, and some very good insights. Do check it out!

  17. Margot in all my surprise and excitement I forgot to thank you for listing my blog under "This Week's Featured Writer's Blog." Thank you, much appreciated.

  18. Mason - My pleasure - you have an interesting and informative blog, and I'm happy to let others know about it : ).

  19. Thank you so much for your award and kind words.

  20. My pleasure, Karen - Folks, Karen's blog is a wealth of valuable information about new crime fiction, reviews of mysteries and more. She also does terrific reviews herself.

  21. Margot, what a nice award. I'm so pleased you included me on your list. I'd be honored to add this award to my blog. Now here's wishing you a healthy, happy, and succesful 2010. May all your dreams come true.

  22. Patricia - No need to thank me; your blog is inviting, interesting and thoughtful - well worth following : ). Thanks, too, for the good wishes. I wish you and those you love a happy, healthy and prosperous 2010.

  23. Thank you kindly, Margot, for including Women of Mystery on your list! We are so honored. I have been learning so much this past year, too, as a result of reading the blogs of so many talented folks, yourself included! I am in awe of the depths of your knowledge and how informative your posts are. I look forward to a new year of learning even more. I appreciate your lists, I will check out the blogs I'm unfamiliar with. Many thanks, and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year, Margot!

  24. Kathleen - Believe me, I was pleased to include your blog. You and your team have created an exciting blog with lots of helpful information and real insight as you share the "writing lessons" you've learned. I like your stories very much, too : ). I hope 2010 is a wonderful year for you : ).

  25. Thank you so much for including my blog among these excellent blogs!

And you are such a welcome guest as you leave the most wonderful comments!

  26. Dorte - Oh, thank you : ). I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog, and I learn something every time I visit. Folks, Dorte's blog has terrific reviews, and it's both informative and clever. I love your sense of humor, too, Dorte : ).

  27. Thanks so much for the mention and the links to some excellent blogs.

  28. My pleasure, Cassandra - Your blog raises important and interesting questions and ideas about writing. I really enjoy every visit!

  29. Thank you so much for the honour, Margot. Apologies for my belated thanks, but as you know my arm is injured so I am only able to type for a very limited amount of time each day. Thank you again for so kindly including Petrona in your list.
As others have written above, I too find your blog compelling. I read it in my RSS reader and always enjoy your thoughtful, informative and imaginative posts. I do try to comment when I can as I find your posts stimulating, intelligent and fun - but recently I have been unable to do much more than to read them (which I have done with enjoyment).

Discovering your blog (thanks to Kerrie) has been a highlight of my year, and I look forward to many future posts. (I endorse the suggestion that has been made previously, that you consider working up your blog posts into a book at some point!)

Just a final note - I agree with you and others about Bernadette's reviews. I find them superb. Her review of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest was the best review of that book I read- but all her reviews are very good, not only that but they provide a really helpful guide as to whether or not I might like a book, and I've bought/read several on the strength of them.

I enjoy many of the blogs on your lists, and those that I don't know, I'll check out very soon.

Thank you again, Margot, for all that you do to enliven the crime-fiction quarter of the internet!

  30. Maxine - How kind of you! Excuse me a moment while I blush and then refocus myself : ). It was my great pleasure to include Petrona in the list of blogs that I find inspiring. Your thoughtful, detailed and honest reviews are fascinting and very helpful as I decide what to read. I'm also so impressed with the way you keep tabs on what's going on in the crime fiction world. Your posts on trends, articles, controversies and other topics of interest are some of the best current-events posts I've found. I'm truly honored to share the crime-fiction community with you. Thanks for taking the time, even with your injury, to comment : ).

You're right, too, about Bernadette's book reviews; they are a fabulous resource for all the reasons we've mentioned. As if that weren't enough, I love the sense of humor : ). Folks, if you haven't checked Bernadette's rating system at Reactions to Reading , please do give it a look - it's so honest and funny, too!

  31. Margot - may I echo the thanks of others. Needles to say, I share their appreciation of your own blog, including the impressively detailed analysis of your chosen topics. I look forward to continuing to learn from your posts next year.

  32. I'm glad my comment got through - Blogger troubles. grrh! Thanks for the additional kind words :).

  33. Hi Margot,

Thank you for all your kind words about the Women of Mystery blog. Happy New Year!

  34. Martin - Thanks for your comments about my blog. Coming from you, that's a real honor. Folks, Martin's blog is a treasure trove of writing, mystery book and film reviews and ideas. Do check it out. I look forward to learning from your blog, too, in the coming year.

Karen - Blogger can be *so* annoying at times, can't it?! I'm glad you were able to "get through," too.

Terrie - Thanks for visiting : ). You and your team-mates have created a really interesting blog about what it's like to write and get published, not to mention all of the other "goodies" there. It was my pleasure to include it. I wish you the best for 2010.

  35. Thank you again, Margot. Another lovely aspect of your blog is its wonderful heart. It is so nice to participate in the stimulting, constructive and warm conversations that you generate here. Really, this blog and its comments are exemplars of what is so great about the activity, in which disparate people are bound together by shared interests. Thank you again for hosting such an enjoyable salon!

  36. Many thanks, Margot. Wishing you all the best for 2010.

  37. Maxine - How kind of you : ). I really do enjoy the conversations we have here, and believe me when I tell you how very much I learn from each one of you. I think you phrased it far better than I ever could: "...disparate people are bound together by shared interests." That, to me, is the essence of what I try to do, so I am truly flattered that you think that's what happens here.

Rhian - Thanks for your visit! I wish you the best in the new year, as well, and believe me, it's my pleasure to include your fine blog.
